The small things

Literally. Today the DC region had its first major snow storm since the blizzard of '96. Around 3:30 pm I suddenly became very antsy because it had been such a quiet day. The snow had been falling since around 10 pm the night before and even the snow trucks couldn't keep up with the snow plowing.

Hey sugar, snow falls
White covers the world today.
Let's make snow angels.

I had a craving for some sort of chocolate chip cookie or a brownie, but seeing as we were out of semi-sweet chocolate chips, I decided to scavenge through the fridge/pantry to see what we had. And I ended up deciding to finish up the coconut chips and sesame seeds by making coconut macaroons and a sweet sesame loaf (recipes courtesy of my "Baking: Easy to make home bakes" book).

Snow trucks come and go;
But snow falls much too swiftly.
I don't want to drive.

And surprisingly enough, it was a lot of fun!

Now, for those of you who don't know me, I'm not the kind of girl who will volunteer to cook. In fact, I'd much prefer staying out of the kitchen as much as possible. Only last year I messed up making Campbell's chicken noodle soup (well, I didn't catch it in time for it not to overflow when it boiled)! But something about measuring out the flour, mixing the coconut mixture with the condensed milk, and whisking my sesame flour with the wet ingredients was so nice. It was so therapeutic- it got my mind off of everything and all I really wanted was to make the perfect treat!

I suppose it really is the small things that make life worth living. Beyond all education and book-learning there must be something more out there.

It's actually the first major snow storm since February 2003 -- freshman year of HS, we had like a week off of school or something.

I can be that way about cooking/kitchens sometimes, too. Except when I'm at home; I love hanging around in the kitchen with my mom. =)

I love how you seem to be turning this into an annual blog. You're gonna die with a grand total of like 80-90 posts on here at this rate =P
